What is a shunt? A shunt is just a very low resistance precision resistor that is wired in series with the load (battery in this case) you want to measure. Essentially, it produces a small voltage that meters and monitors can read and convert to an Amp reading. This shunt allows the IPN ProRemote (shown above) to monitor the battery(s) state of charge in Amp-Hours used/remaining or % of charge.
MC4 Extender Cable Male/Female Rated for 1000 Volts DC and is UL listed as PV Cable. MC4 (Solarline 2), Extender Cable with one male and one female connector. Often used to connect panels that are spaced too far apart to use the built in cables on the solar panels. They are also used to bring the positive (+) and negative (-) ends of a string back to the solar controller. Another example of the professional grade components used throughout this system.

The Blue Sky Energy Battery Temperature Sensor Improves Charge Control and Battery Performance. Applying the proper charge voltage is critical for achieving optimum battery performance and longevity. The ideal charge voltage required by batteries changes with battery temperature.
The battery temperature sensor allows the charge controller to continuously adjust charge voltage based on actual battery temperature.
Temperature compensation of charge voltage assures that the battery receives the proper charge voltage as battery temperature changes during normal operation.
Blue Sky Energy Solar Boost 3024iL 12V / 24V MPPT charge controller.
Patented Maximum Power Point Tracking technology allows Solar Boost 3024iL to increase charge current up to 30% or more compared to conventional charge controllers. Don’t waste your money by throwing PV power away!
Solar Boost 3024iL’s advanced fully automatic 3-stage charge control system will properly charge flooded lead-acid, AGM and GEL batteries resulting in improved battery performance with less maintenance. The dual 30/40 amp rating will deliver at up to 30 amps in 24 volt systems, or up to 40 amps in 12 volt systems. An automatic or manual equalize function is also provided to periodically condition flooded lead-acid batteries. To further enhance versatility, a user configurable auxiliary output and Blue Sky Energy’s advanced IPN™ network interface are also included.
The Kyocera KU265 solar panels are mainly intended for grid-tie systems, but may also be used for battery based systems if used with an MPPT charge controller that can take higher input voltages and convert it down to the correct battery voltage.

The Blue Sky Energy IPN ProRemote combines full-featured charge controller monitoring and battery system monitoring into a single user-friendly remote display. A bright crisp backlit LCD display with plain English language text and three simple front panel keys is extremely easy to use.
With the IPN ProRemote you no longer have to guess how much battery capacity remains. A high accuracy calculation of remaining battery capacity compensates for a variety of factors including charge/discharge current, battery size, type, temperature and how the battery was brought back to full charge. It even learns from past battery behavior to continuously improve accuracy!
In summary, if you have read this far, you cannot help but be impressed with the quality of the components that went into this off-grid solar charging system. The system is maintenance free (including the batteries), and requires no monitoring, but offers a wealth of real-time and historical data for the "geeks" who get off on such things. Not only are the components top-of-the-line, but the workmanship of the installation is professional grade, having been accomplished by a technician/engineer with 45 years experience in the aerospace industry, including 19 years or RV solar experience.

Ironridge XR Rails are the backbone of the solar array. Their unique curved profile increases structural strength and spanning capability, allowing for fewer roof penetrations and more cost-effective system designs.
All XR Rails are made of marine-grade aluminum alloy, then protected with an anodized finish. Anodizing protects against surface and structural corrosion, while also providing a more attractive appearance.
Use of these solar mounts in an RV installation allows mounting of replacement solar panels with unlike dimensions a very simple task. No additional roof penetrations required.
