What is a shunt? A shunt is just a very low resistance precision resistor that is wired in series with the load (battery in this case) you want to measure. Essentially, it produces a small voltage that meters and monitors can read and convert to an Amp reading.  This shunt allows the IPN ProRemote (shown above) to monitor the battery(s) state of charge in Amp-Hours used/remaining or % of charge.

MC4 Extender Cable Male/Female Rated for 1000 Volts DC and is UL listed as PV Cable. MC4 (Solarline 2), Extender Cable with one male and one female connector. Often used to connect panels that are spaced too far apart to use the built in cables on the solar panels. They are also used to bring the positive (+) and negative (-) ends of a string back to the solar controller.  Another example of the professional grade components used throughout this system.

With the IPN ProRemote you no longer have to guess how much battery capacity remains. A high accuracy calculation of remaining battery capacity compensates for a variety of factors including charge/discharge current, battery size, type, temperature and how the battery was brought back to full charge.
